Test Results
Blood and other specimens for testing are collected by hospital transport at lunchtime each weekday.
The time taken for the results to come back to us will depend on the tests required, some take longer than others. If several tests are needed, the results may come back to us over several days.
- Generally routine blood tests take 2-3 days;
- Routine urine and swab tests take about 4 days;
- Cervical smears take up to 6 weeks;
- X-rays reports take about 2 weeks.
- Fasting lipid / cholesterol results – usually 2 weeks although it can be up to one month or even longer during certain times of the year.
Please ring our reception staff after 14:00 who can relay any messages that the doctor has recorded about your results.

We ask patients to ring after 14:00 because:
- this allows time for our doctors to read all their patient results after morning surgery.
- our phone lines are kept available for emergency / urgent queries in the morning.
We are unable to give out any information to family or friends unless written consent from the patient concerned has been given to the Practice. Please understand that this is a stipulation of the Data Protection Act and is for the protection of our patients.
Patients who have signed up to online access (Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Patient Access) will also be able to view their results online.
